It may be light out all night this time of year in northern Sweden, but on June 8 there was a very special sunrise. At 8:05 a.m., the Sunrise balloon was successfully launched from Esrange Space...

Scientific Visitors: Conducting Research with NCAR

Collaborating on Research: Scientific Visitors

NCAR hosts many scientific visitors each year -- from short visits to extended collaborations, undergraduate interns to emminent scientists.  The visitor, internship and workshop programs are run by each of the research or facilities groups, but usually involve very similar requirements, i.e. identifying an NCAR scientific 'host' or opportunity, and applying via the host-group's guidelines.  For specific information on opportunities, please see the Visitors & Opportunities page.

Access to NSF / NCAR observing facilities

NSF’s Lower Atmospheric Observing Facilities (LAOF) are available on a competitive basis to qualified researchers from universities, NCAR, and other government agencies. Facilities managed by NCAR's Earth Observing Laboratory include research aircraft, radars, and mobile and in situ measurement systems. EOL also provides field project management support for the research community. For more information, please see the NCAR Earth Observing Laboratory.

This figure shows a sample Fe I intensity image, with the locations of "corks" advected by the derived flow field overplotted as green dots. Locations of field concentrations are marked by red diamonds for positive polarity, and blue diamonds for negative polarity. The field concentrations appear to favor locations of high cork density.
